Petra, Jordan 02 June 2007

Robin and I took a day trip to Petra on Saturday. Its a 2 1/2 hour drive from Amman. We hired a driver and a car to take us there. Once ther you have the option of walking about a 1/2 hour down a cavern to the site or taking a horse carriage. Because we had such limited time we opted for the horse carriage - was a bit ridiculous because we also hired a guide for 2 hours who couldn't fit in the carriage so we ended up going really slowly and stopping a lot! The ride was a bit bumpy as well in the cobblestone areas. At the end of the cavern you see the Treasury (pic 1) which is AMAZING. Everything in Petra has been CARVED out of the stone... so unreal. There is a theater, a monestary (at the top and unfortunately we didnt have time to go) and hundreds of tombs. We walked around for a bit then headed back. More pics in the next post.
